My friends
Sometimes it's strange for me to hang out with the ladies in my ward. Don't get me wrong they are very cool women, with whom I have a fabulous time. I find it strange because most of the women who are my age have been married longer than 2.5 years and have kids who are a lot older than little man. The ladies who are at a similar place in their lives are 10+ years younger. So I find myself still relating best to the single sisters and my mother's friends.... do I want to know what that says about me?

Old man pants
$1
When will I learn that carrying a $1 in my purse is the key to making it through the grocery store without wanting to cry? All I have to do is make a pit stop in the produce section, buy an apple and it's at least 30 minutes of contentment for Little Man. But no, I think to myself, "It's only a couple things. We'll be quick." And do I regret it by the time there are 3 items or less in the cart...Oh YES. Someone please remind me next time I'm headed to the grocery store to make sure that $1 is in my wallet.
Mission Completion
Well, not quite, but pretty darn close. We managed to get everything on our list done except for two things. I decided it was pointless to go through the stuff in the trailer until we could use it at the new apartment. I'm sure that the stuff we can't find is in there somewhere and if not - I get to go shopping. So the only thing left on the list is fixing the crib. It's one that we got for free a few weeks ago when we thought we might need two cribs. Now it just needs a little extra stability on one end. I'll go to the hardware store this week and it will give Wil a project for this weekend, while I'm cooking 8lbs of sloppy joes for the ward picnic.

The List
We were right on schedule and doing well with our weekend to-do list until 11am today. That is when our wonderful friend, Dari, called and said, "the pool is open and we are planning to spend the afternoon hanging out in it. You are welcome to join us." The plans changed immediately. Once we made a quick stop at Wal-mart for a pool floatie and sunscreen, we were eager to get Little Man down for a nap and head on over. It was GREAT! Little man loved the pool and they invited us for dinner too. We did get the closet cleaned out, but the boxes here can wait until another day.

For AHP
It's Jennifer's fault...
that I cut my finger while making dinner last night. As we were leaving Enrichment Wednesday night, she mad the comment that "(cooking) disasters always happen when you are planning Enrichment or having the missionaries over for dinner". This wasn't a "disaster" (thank goodness) but she jinxed me.

Memorial Day Weekend
I would just copy Heidi's list, but we don't have a garage, shed or a yard that is our own. Plus her list just made me REALLY tired. Our to do list so far for this weekend is as follows:
1. Visit Grandmother and Grandad.
2. Clean out closets at the house.
3. Finish unpacking the apartment.
4. Set up the new fish tank.
5. Naps.
I know there was more, but that's all I can think of right now. Wil may have something to add to it.

Whistle while you work
I went to our quarterly Enrichment meeting last night and the theme was "Lighten' Up". Something I really needed to hear. So this morning while little man was fussing for me to pick him up and I was trying to get tonight's dinner for the missionaries started, I let him "help" with the dishes. 20 minutes later, my dishes are done and I actually get to stop and post something more than the HUGE pictures of my eye. Thank goodness for well water that costs us nothing and the plastic dishes from IKEA. Until just now when he realized he can dump bowls of water on the floor...gotta go!
It was definitely worth the dry outfit.

Evidence
I believe this is what you have all been waiting for (sorry if they are blurry)...
Saturday night about an hour after it happened.
Sunday morning
This it what it looked like when I went to the grocery store this morning. After the hussy comment from my brother yesterday, I wasn't sure which was worse... having a black eye or people wondering if I just wear a LOT of make-up on ONE eye.

The verdict is in...
I woke up this morning to a swollen eyelid in varied shades of purple, blue and black. Pictures to follow soon.

My first black eye?
Tomorrow morning we will see if little man has given me my first black eye. My fingers are crossed that the ice pack on my eye will keep it from (1) swelling shut and (2) turning purple (even thought it is my favorite color). You may wonder exactly how this came to be... We were finishing up our bedtime routine with his nighttime bottle, books and family prayer. He was sitting on the bed in front of me and was not happy with the prospect of putting away his toys. He threw his head back as hard as he could. Usually I can catch him without too much of a problem, but he caught me off guard and connected with my eyebrow in just the right spot. It was the kind of force that makes you go quiet until the room stops spinning. I handed little man off to Wil and felt my eyelid expand as he said prayers. I got my contacts out without too much trouble, but was surprised at how big my eyelid had gotten. I couldn't tell if little man was more upset by my reaction to the whole thing, the rapid swelling or Wil's "lecture" about hurting Mama. If it does turn a lovely shade of blue or purple, I promise to take pictures.
Shout out to AHP
I was super surprised yesterday to find a box of PURPLE pens in my mailbox, direct from AHP. She knows my love of all things purple. My favorite part was that her 2 year old had even opened them up for me! Thank you, AHP and Peanut, too.

Argh!
Tide to Go USED to be my best friend, but not any more. It made the red juice spots on my white t-shirt worse. Now there are huge yellow spots from the Tide. By the way, Grandma, red juice = BAD idea.
What's for dinner?
Why is it that no matter how many yummy new recipes I add to my arsenal of dinners, we end up eating spaghetti at least once a week? Is it because I can sneak in green veggies and my men will still eat them without argument? Is it the ease of knowing that we almost always have stuff in the cupboards to make it? Or that I can feed us for a few days on a couple bucks worth of groceries? Maybe knowing that little man will eat it with about the same enthusiasm as this:
Not dirt, his first oreo (which he loved, of course). One day I will come up with something as easy, inexpensive and yummy as spaghetti... and then I'll be posting about how we end up eating it ALL THE TIME.

Naptime
Home again
We've been home from the hospital for about half an hour. Little Man is playing happily with his toys and watching Sesame Street. Everything went smoothly with the procedure and we were out of there quicker than I had expected. Any chance that the tubes will cure temper tantrums? I'm not holding out much hope.

Waiting....
Tomorrow morning we will be heading to the hospital at 6am for the little man's ear tube procedure. I'm anxiously waiting to see what the outcome will be. I worried that I'm expecting this to be a cure all to everything... sleepless nights/VERY early mornings, longer naps, better vocabulary. We shall see.
Lindsey's fault
She convinced me to start this, so blame her if you are bored or get sick of hearing about my little man.
